Bonnie And Clyde Guns Will Be Auctioned

July 16, 2012 / by / 417 Comments

She kept a Colt .38-caliber revolver close, while he preferred a .45-caliber pistol from the same maker. But neither weapon was enough to save American outlaws and lovers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow during a 1934 ambush by law enforcement officers. After the duo was dead, authorities recovered the revolver Bonnie had secured to an inner thigh with white medical tape. They also seized the handgun Clyde had tucked into his waistband. Nearly 80 years later, those guns and other items connected to the infamous gangsters will be going up for auction in New Hampshire on Sept. 30. An auction official estimated Thursday that each Bonnie and Clyde weapon could bring between $100,000 and $200,000. “They were pretty famous in their moment and I think that’s lasted through time,” said Bobby Livingston, vice president of RR Auction in Amherst, N.H. Besides the guns, other items Livingston’s company will auction include a gold pocket watch Clyde was wearing when he died, and a cosmetics case Bonnie was using to carry lipstick, Coty face powder and a powder puff. The brown leatherette box was inside the Ford automobile the gangsters were riding in when a posse of lawmen riddled it with bullets …

DirecTV Customers Lose MTV, Nick and other Viacom Nets

July 11, 2012 / by / 248 Comments

At midnight on Tuesday, 17 Viacom-owned cable nets like Nickelodeon and Comedy Central went dark on DirecTV after the conglomerate failed to reach a new carriage deal with the satellite provider. DirecTV customers who wanted their MTV (or their BET, or Spike, or VH1) were met with this message: “Viacom, the owner of this channel, forced DirecTV to suspend it despite our many requests to keep it on. We are working to bring it back as soon as possible without an unfair increase to your bill. Disruptions like this are brief. Go to DirecTVPromise.com for the latest info.” CEO Mike White also taped a message for customers by saying how Viacom wants them to “pay substantially more for all of their networks, even those you don’t watch or care about.” Viacom described the impasse a little differently by saying it was DirecTV’s decision to drop the major cablers. “We are deeply disappointed that DirecTV dropped Viacom’s channels before our midnight deadline this evening, severing our connection with its nearly 20 million subscribers nationwide,” according to a company statement. “We proposed a fair deal that amounted to an increase of only a couple pennies per day, per subscriber, and we remained willing to negotiate …

Lauryn Hill Facing Prison Time For Taxes

June 30, 2012 / by / 576 Comments

After failing to file tax returns from 2005-2007, Lauryn Hill is now facing the legal music. The former Fugee has plead guilty to tax evasion and is now facing a $75,000 fine and three years of jail time…one for each year of evasion. According to TMZ, Hill faced a judge this morning (June 29) and admitted that she “intentionally and willingly” failed to file the returns. Now, she’ll face a potential prison sentence at a hearing set for November. After the appearance, Hill was released on $150,000 bail. When the news of her hefty tax bill broke earlier this month, Hill claimed that she had completely removed herself from both family and society during that three year period. “For the past several years, I have remained what others would consider underground,” she wrote in an open letter. “I kept my life relatively simple, even after huge successes,” she continued. “But it became increasingly obvious that certain indulgences and privileges were expected to come at the expense of my free soul, free mind and therefore my health and integrity.” Hill still owes taxes on more than $1.8 million of income earned from 2005-2007. SUPREME COURT RULES IN FAVOR OF OBAMACARE!! So What Now?

June 28, 2012 / by / 535 Comments

The Supreme Court ruling to uphold the core of President Barack Obama’s 2010 health-care law has wide-ranging political and economic implications. Here is a snap analysis of what it means for Americans, health-care providers, insurers, the law and the presidential campaign. How does the ruling affect the average American? Working families with annual household incomes up to nearly $90,000 will be able to purchase private insurance through new state insurance markets at prices subsidized according to income level, beginning in 2014. But people with household incomes of around $29,000, who qualify for coverage under the Medicaidgovernment health insurance program for the poor , may have to wait for their respective state governments to decide whether they will join the program’s huge expansion. Preventive health-care measures including mammograms and other cancer screenings will be available without deductibles or co-pays. Adult children up to age 26 can remain on their parents’ health insurance plans. Senior citizens can expect to continue receiving discounts on prescription drugs aimed at closing the Medicare coverage gap known as the “doughnut hole.” Health insurers will continue to pay rebates on premiums not sufficiently targeted at health-care services. Beginning in 2014, insurers will no longer be able to …

Supreme Court Health Care Decision Coming Thursday

June 25, 2012 / by / 448 Comments

The Supreme Court did not rule on the constitutionality of Presiden’t Obama’s health care law Monday, pushing the announcement of the decision to Thursday morning. The decision is among the most closely watched in decades. As a political matter, the case tests Obama’s signature achievement as president, the Affordable Care Act. The ruling could also impact millions of Americans’ access to health insurance, which the expanded through Medicaid, the future creation of health care exchanges for private insurance and allowing adult children to remain on their parents’ plans until age 26. The Court could deal with the law in any number of ways. It could invalidate or sustain the law as a whole, or strike down provisions — such as the individual mandate to purchase health insurance — and leave most of the rest of the law in place. It could also punt on ruling on the law at all, or void the Medicaid expansion. The court heard three days of argument in March over the case. SOURCE

Michelle Obama does the dougie…and jumps double dutch? She’s officially changed the game on what the First Lady of the United States should be. This week, she paid a visit to Live! With Kelly and showed off her double dutch skills with the National Double Dutch Champions, the Cary Family YMCA Super Skippers. The Cary Family were super surprised when the President’s wife came out as the ‘double dutch expert,’ and later schooled everyone when she jumped in the ropes. (The schoolgirl from the South Side of Chi was showing just a little bit!). Too cute! Check out the First Lady getting her jump on below: Last year, Michelle Obama showed off her skills for the first time on the South Lawn during a taping for Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play. Rodney King Dead: Face Of LA Riots Dies At Age 47

June 17, 2012 / by / 139 Comments

Rodney King, the man who was at the center of the infamous Los Angeles riots, was found dead this morning, TMZ has reported. He was 47. According to TMZ, King’s fiancée, Cynthia Kelly, found him dead at the bottom of a swimming pool. CNN has confirmed his passing. King recently marked the twentieth anniversary of the Los Angeles riots — the mayhem that took place after four police officers were acquitted of beating King in 1991. The beating, which was caught on camera, sparked national outrage and put King at the center of heated debate about the state of race relations in America. CBS Los Angeles has released a radio interview with Rialto, California police Captain Randy De Anda, who says that King may have had some verbal contact with his fiancée, at which time she went outside and found him at the bottom of the pool. “Rialto police officers responded to the location and removed him from inside of the pool and began CPR. The Rialto Fire Department paramedics responded and transported Mr. King to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead at 6:11 a.m. this morning,” De Anda said. Preliminary information showed no signs of foul play, …

George Zimmerman’s Wife Arrested & Charged With…

June 13, 2012 / by / 174 Comments

Shellie Zimmerman, the wife of George Zimmerman – the man accused of fatally shooting Trayvon Martin, was arrested and charged with perjury, reports the Huffington Post. Shellie was taken into custody earlier today and later released on $1,000 bond. She, along with her husband, are accused of deceiving the court of their financial status. At the time of George’s initial April hearing, he informed the court he was broke. However, he failed to mention he collected nearly $200K in additional funds from a website he started. He also didn’t mention a second passport, which he was ordered to surrender as part of his bond condition. In between his first hearing and June 1, the day a Florida judge revoked his bond and ordered him back to Seminole County jail, George and his wife moved tens of thousand of dollars from his account to hers in an effort to keep it a secret. At the time, the prosecution presented recorded phone conversations between George and his wife conspiring to keep the money hidden from the court. George remains behind bars awaiting trial. He’s pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges. SOURCE

Father Kills Man Who Molested His Daughter…

June 12, 2012 / by / 275 Comments

Sheriff’s deputies in Texas won’t file charges against a father who they say beat an acquaintance to death after allegedly catching him sexually abusing the man’s 4-year-old daughter. During a social gathering on Saturday, the girl went inside the family’s home in Shiner while other members of the family were tending to horses outside, CNN reported. The father caught a 47-year-old man — with whom he was casually acquainted — attempting to molest his daughter, Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon told the Victoria Advocate. The father then allegedly punched the man in the head until he died, Harmon reported. The father and daughter weren’t named to protect the identity of the 4-year-old girl. She was described as “ok, besides the obvious mental trauma” of the incident, Harmon said. The alleged abuser was found dead at the scene. His name wasn’t released pending the announcement of his death to his family. The sheriff’s office will defer to a grand jury to decide whether charges will be brought against the father. “You have a right to defend your daughter,” he told CNN. “[The girl's father] acted in defense of his third person. Once the investigation is completed we will submit it to …
